after much googling of women's workwear [ignoring results like j friggin crew], i happened upon eve workwear, a clothing company started by two female contractors, focused on bringing female apprentices into the trade. in an end of the year sale, i purchased 2 pairs [in 2 sizes] of their standard cuffed utility work pants, for aus$172.50. initially, my thought was holy fuck that is expensive. but a currency converter later, us$53 each with free shipping stateside. a bit weird in fit and cut, and i feel like i should be squatting for slavic rap videos in an adidas hoodie... but 9/10. product description from their website:
welp. due to time in new zealand [travel and school], i know south pacific sizes are generally one or two numbers up from american sizes. and then there's centimetres.. hence why i ordered two sizes - not worth an international return, and i gave the other pair to a friend. the waist is accurate for a low waist measurement, and inseam isn't really a consideration for me since the pants are cuffed at the ankle. however, due to my hefty asian soccer calves [i can't wear skinny boots] the pants function like skinny jeans from the knee down, which is surprisingly convenient for muckboots in the maine mud season
front pockets are deep enough to hold a cell phone, keys, knife, and to lose many pairs of earplugs without knowing. which is very fortunate, cos the back pockets start mid-cheek and go down to about mid-thigh. i made the mistake of dropping my phone in the back pocket and then couldn't find or retrieve it for a few. again with the cargo pocket, only one this time, which i hadn't even unzipped until this moment; along with a highly functional hammer loop, two pen pockets, and a third pocket i easily stuck a cats paw in.
but the dropped crotch. if you've ever donned a pair of sweatpants "joggers", that's about the right fit; slightly strangely baggy around the bum, and tight at the ankles. eesh. these pants are stupid comfortable, and entirely consume my backside. the "rear buckle" is cute and unfortunately pretty much only decorative; thus far it hasn't been an issue, but if it proves to be annoying, i'll cut it off. the material is a relatively heavy-weight denim with minimal stretch, that allows for multiple wears before the pants have contorted completely out of shape, but unfortunately still require i put on a belt after about 10 minutes of wear.
